Abstract

Paragangliomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors that arise from the extra-adrenal sympathetic and parasympathetic paraganglia. Most parasympathetic paragangliomas are nonfunctional, derived from non-chromaffin cells located in the neck and at the base of the skull. It is often necessary to exclude it in patients with early and severe arterial hypertension, or with therapeutic refractoriness. This case shows an example of a patient with arterial hypertension that was very difficult to control, whose etiological investigation revealed the presence of a cervical paraganglioma.
